Industrial engineers as the cornerstone

Built by industrial engineers, for the business you run.

We're not accountants who added operations features. We're operations and efficiency experts who build the system finance runs on top of, backed by a platform with a four-decade production track record.

Company background

Proven in production, not in a pitch deck

The platform Iteiga implements today didn't start as a pitch. It started as a working accounting system in the 1980s, and every deployment since has stayed in production.

1980s: Origin

An accounting-focused platform

The foundation of what's now Midbase began as an accounting platform in the 1980s. It is still operational today: the starting point for a lineage of production systems, not a legacy system quietly phased out.

Financial services

A commodity finance platform inside a major retail bank

The platform was built out into a commodity finance system inside one of South Africa's four major retail banks. It remains active.

Financial services

An all-encompassing back-office platform, group-wide

That engagement grew into a back-office platform spanning the bank's wider group, still active today, running core operational processes across multiple business units.

Most recent flagship

An operational platform for South Africa's third-largest fibre network operator

The most recent large-scale deployment: an operational platform running inside one of South Africa's largest fibre network operators, ranked third nationally.

Also in production

Smaller, sharper deployments

Alongside the flagship builds: a procedural and SOP intelligence hub for a retail bank's branch network, and a predictive model with head-office visibility tooling for a fast-food franchise group.

The team

So who's actually behind this?

If the technical layer is already solved, the work that's left is business logic: workflows, roles, data structure, process rules. That's not a coding problem, and it's not an accounting problem either. It's an industrial engineering problem, which is exactly why an industrial engineer does it, not a developer or an accountant.

Higgo Smit

Higgo Smit

Industrial Engineer

Higgo Smit is a qualified industrial engineer. He is also the person who does the implementation work described throughout this site.

Industrial engineering training is built around process design, workflow analysis, and systems optimization: figuring out how a set of moving parts should actually fit together to run efficiently. That is exactly the skill set required to configure business logic on a platform where the technical layer is already solved. It's the bridge between "no developers needed" and "so who does it, then." That's why implementing Midbase looks nothing like a software project.

Wayne Edwards

Wayne Edwards

Chief Investment Officer

Wayne Edwards serves as Chief Investment Officer at Iteiga, overseeing financial strategy and investment discipline as the company grows. He brings a rigorous, numbers-first perspective to how Iteiga allocates resources and evaluates opportunity.

That discipline keeps growth sustainable rather than reactive: every investment decision is weighed against the same standard, so the business scales on a sound financial footing instead of momentum alone.

Quentin Opperman

Quentin Opperman

Chief Technology Officer

Quentin Opperman is the Chief Technology Officer at Iteiga and the original creator of Midbase, the platform this entire site is built around. He designed Midbase's core architecture: the API, the workflow engine, and the data layer that has run in production since the platform's earliest deployments.

Quentin continues to lead Midbase's technical direction today, making sure the platform stays a stable, production-proven foundation as Iteiga configures it around new businesses.

Recent implementation work

What this looks like in practice

Two recent engagements where Higgo configured Midbase directly: concrete work, not a capability list.

FIBRE / CPE INSTALLATION

WireWire Networks

A fibre and CPE installation business with a captive portal offering. Higgo configured:

  • Workflow automation for field installation logistics

  • Equipment and stock tracking for field teams

  • A revenue analytics dashboard tracking installed connections against revenue

ORGANISATIONAL & QUOTING SYSTEMS

TECEx

Higgo built out the operational backbone and a customer-facing quoting flow:

  • Organisational structure: teams, roles, and permissions

  • Multi-step workflow logic

  • A quoting system with automated pricing logic

  • An external form tool integrated directly into the workflow
